Bethia and Johnny talk to Columbus Historical Society executive director about historic restaurants in Columbus and the Columbus Historical Society’s upcoming gala.
The Columbus Historical Society (CHS) will showcase local restaurants that have contributed to the cuisine and history of the Capital City for more than 25 years at Savor the City: Classic Columbus Cocktails and Cuisine — its annual fundraising event being held Thursday, October 4 from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at COSI — the new home of the CHS gallery.
Savor the City: Classic Columbus Cocktails & Cuisine, which is co-chaired by Johnny DiLoretto (co-host of WCBE’s FOODCAST) and Bethia Woolf (founder of Columbus Food Adventures), will feature tasting tables sponsored by several historic and beloved Columbus restaurants, including: The Refectory, Schmidt’s Restaurant und Sausage Haus, The Top, Rigsby’s Kitchen, Otani Sushi and Karaoke Bar, Wings Restaurant and Auddino’s Italian Bakery. Middle West Spirits will also be mixing a special, Columbus-inspired cocktail for the event.
“Food is an important part of every city’s culture,” said Jeff Lafever, executive director of CHS. “Our event celebrates Columbus’ unique cuisine and the restaurateurs and purveyors who have contributed greatly to the city’s culinary identity.”
The event also features the opening of the new CHS exhibit — The Bicentennial Exhibit Part II: The Next 100 years 1912-2012 — and includes music by the Arnette Howard Trio, a live auction and raffle and a presentation of commendations to each of the participating restaurants by the Columbus Chamber of Commerce.
Tickets are $85/person or $150/couple for nonmembers and $75/person or $125/couple for CHS members and can be purchased online at www.columbushistory.org or by phone at
(614) 224-0822. Proceeds from the event go toward CHS’ efforts to preserve, protect and promote the history of central Ohio.
